Mindful Movement, Meditation and Relaxation

For 3 weeks in August Amber will be leading you through a series of mindful movement and meditation classes. Join Amber on Wednesday nights from 7:15 – 8:30 pm for a gentle and accessible movement and meditation class, with an extended relaxation. These classes will be grounded in a mindfulness based practice, based on the teachings by Jon Kabat – Zinn.

We often become swept up in the busyness of life.  Living in an overstimulated world, if we don’t take time to stop, decompress and process then we start to fall apart. What does mindfulness even mean? In simple terms, it means to pay attention to your present moment. It’s a practice that brings us back home to ourselves with compassion and self – love, underneath all the distractions life presents to us. In this class we are gently reintroducing ourselves back to our breath and finding a path underneath the incessant merry-go-round of our thoughts. When we don’t give ourselves a chance to be quiet and integrate the experiences of our life then we begin to live in a chronic state of stress, we can move through our lives on auto-pilot, and the effects are profound. We see it in our relationships, in the way we communicate, in our health, in our sleep, in our overall energy levels. By simply slowing down we start to reverse these effects and become healthier, happier and calmer. Please join us as we journey back into the simple experience of a deep full breath, some quiet time in stillness, and gentle slow mindful movement.

These classes will be held August 7th, 14th and 20th, on Wednesday nights from
7:15 – 8:30 pm. You can use your regular class pass, including our unlimited summer and monthly passes. Drop-ins are also welcome ($16).

Stay tuned for the fall, as we’ll be offering these classes on our regular weekly schedule Wednesday nights and as a series on Friday afternoons.

Our Beginners Core Series Starts This Wednesday

We wanted to remind you our Get to know your core – a mini series focused on core strengthening with Lynne,  begins this Wednesday night, May 1st.

The core muscles are the foundation for all movement and posture. Without a strong core the potential for injury from exercise and everyday movement increases.

Learn which muscles are involved in the core and how to connect them to movement as well as increase their strength – and in turn your overall strength!

This mini series is suitable for everyone, from beginners to advanced practitioners. No experience necessary. We will gently move through different exercises each week to give you a good understanding on how your core functions with movement and improves posture.
This series will be taught by Lynne Jenkins  as part of our Wednesday night mini series classes.  It will be held from 6:00 – 7:15 pm, May 1st, 8th and the 15th.

You can use your regular class pass or drop in for any of the sessions.

Please contact the studio directly at 613-451-2891 or email info@suryadaya.ca, if you have any questions. Sign up is not necessary, but please come early to settle into the space.

Yoga for your neck and shoulders

Please join us Wednesday nights, April 10th and April 17th from 6 – 7:15pm. Amber will be offering our next mini-series focused on the area around our heart and our lungs.  She will be guiding you through postures and pranayama to stretch and soften the chest, shoulders and neck.

We often find our bodies holding onto unhealthy postural patterns, due to our high levels of stress and habits, especially when we spend so much of our time on computers, at desks or driving to and from work.  We ask so much of our bodies on a daily basis and often hold ourselves in very restricted and constricted patterns, but rarely give ourselves the focus and attention we need to reverse these patterns and return to a healthy, more functional state of being.

When our upper bodies are tight and tense, our lymphatic system suffers as a result of compression from the muscles and fascia. We can also end up with abnormal breathing patterns, pain and neurological dysfunction in the arms, hands, shoulders and neck.  When we look at our bodies anatomically, we also have pivotal mirror points – our hips often mirror our shoulders, our diaphragm and our jaw.  We aren’t distinctive parts,  this two-week series will focus on bringing our parts back together and releasing the areas that restrict us and hold us back.

This series will be a balance of getting to know the anatomy of our upper body and the relationship to our bodies as a whole, learning remedial exercises, hatha postures, and some longer holding restorative postures to release deep tension. Each class will be stand alone, but participating in both sessions is highly recommended.

As the spring approaches, we want to open around our heart centre to allow all the new energy and opportunities to flow in!  We hope to see you at one or both of these sessions.

This series is a shorter series of only 2 weeks.  You can use your regular class pass or drop in for either of the evenings.  The cost for a drop – in is $16 (HST inclusive)

Please contact the studio directly at 613-451-2891 or email info@suryadaya.ca, if you have any questions.  Sign up is not necessary, but please come early to settle into the space.

Mindfulness Meditation and Relaxation Session

As a follow-up to Amber’s mindfulness meditation and movement series she will be holding monthly meet-ups to support you to stay inspired in your practice. You don’t have to have completed the series to attend these sessions, they are for anyone wanting to sit in stillness and be supported in community to explore these practices.   The next session will be held on Wednesday, April 24th, from 6:00 – 7:15 pm.

These sessions are by donation, and will be in support of our SEVA fund, which helps to support local families and organizations we believe in. No donation is to small, our priority is making this space to come together to practice, accessible for everyone.

Kundalini Yoga for Digestion

Please join us Wednesday nights, March 20th – April 3rd,  from 6 – 7:15pm.   Simonne will be offering a spring mini series focused on digestion and yoga practices to help detoxify our bodies.

In our current culture we are bombarded with stress and over stimulation which has a profound effect on our digestive system, our mood and emotions, our energy levels and our organs of elimination.  We ask so much of our bodies and often don’t give ourselves enough time to nurture and revitalize our systems that help us to thrive.  In this three week series, we will use the practice of Kundalini yoga to strengthen and nurture our digestive system, an important component to our overall health and vitality.    We will learn how the digestive system works and  specific techniques and postures that can help keep it functioning at it’s very best.  The series is suitable for all levels of practice, from beginner to advanced.

Each class will be stand alone but participating in all 3 weeks is highly recommended.

Hips And Low Back Yoga Series

Please join us Wednesday nights, February 6th – 27th,  from 6 – 7:15pm.   Ashley will be offering our next mini series focused on hip strength and mobility.

In our current culture we ask so much of our hips but rarely do we give them the focus and attention they deserve. In this series we’ll spend some time working with our hips to understand where they need to be strengthened and where we need more length. A balance of Hatha postures and longer Yin poses will leave you feeling strong and mobile. Each class will be stand alone but participating in all 4 is highly recommended.
